do you think you would save any money when you build your own pc?

Previously in my last job i use to buy my PC from the store as i got staff discount. But the problem with buying the PCs there were that they were not really mod-able meaning i could really replace many parts and upgrade the PC itself.

I think in the long-run building your own and looking for the best prices for parts from different outlets would be a better solution when saving money. I spend initially around $1200 on my computer a couple years ago now. Whilst i now every half a year maybe upgrade one or two parts what might cost a couple hundred at a time or something like that - it spreads the spending out meaning you dont really have to save huge chunks of money such as if you were going to purchase a new PC from a store.

imo building yourself means a saving and you get what you want and not what the manufacturer can save the most cash on (ie psu).

my current rig cost me maybe £750 to buy the parts and would cost close to £1000 to buy ready built.so quite a saving really.

I do not save money by doing this. The computer just has exactly all the features I need.

    What PC/Laptop do you have?
  8. ashimashi Member

It is PC. It is custom made by my friend. He made it 3 years ago. THe total came to $3000.

    Oh damn whats the specs?
  10. ashimashi Member

Don't remember all, for now all I remember is 2GB memory and 750GB hard drive.

I really need to upgrade to 4GB. 2GB is great on XP but sucks on 7

    Definitely save.

Not just that, but you get exactly what you want without all the unwanted bells and whistles the ready made rigs come with, that just clutter everything up...

Well you might be able to save if you bought all the parts on sale.

    Depends on what parts too....

Building your own PC will save you lots of money in the short term. But if anything goes bad with your home built PC you have to deal with the manufacture warranty. Instead of calling Dell or who ever you bought your PC from. In some cases your better off buying a brand new part instead of waiting because your PC might be down for a month or more waiting for the part.

    Definitely build your own PC.

Well there's a problem right there.. buying a pc from Dell is asking for trouble! :D

You may not save a huge amount by building yourself, but you do get just what you wanted instead of having to compromise with whatever bundle is sold ready made.
